Government Postgraduate College, Jind began
its academic odyssey in pursuit of excellence on 16 July, 1960 as Public College, Jind. It
came to acquire its present mantle and name exactly one year after its inception, i.e. on
17 July, 1961, when it was taken over by the State Government. Ardently engaged in the
pious task of serving the academic interest of the students of this historically rich but
educationally and socially backward region of Haryana, this college, with the passage of
time, has carved out a niche for itself in the academic world. The status of this college
in the academic world can be adjudged from the very fact that NAAC has adjudged Govt. P.G.
College, Jind, as one of the four best Government Colleges in Haryana with a B+ grade.
This college is situated in the heart of the city on the main road passing through the
town, hardly a furlong away form the General Bus Stand of the city. It has the distinction
of being one of the oldest and the biggest colleges in Haryana. Its campus is spread over
an area of about twenty-one acres of land. The well-maintained parks and lawns and
lush-green trees and plants provide sylvan surroundings to the campus. Besides having
fully-developed playgrounds/ fields for cricket, badminton, basketball, volleyball,
football, handball, hockey, kabaddi (NS), kho-kho, wrestling, and all the major athletic
events, the college possesses an imposing building consisting of an adequate number of
classrooms, laboratories, departmental rooms, offices. The college also has a seminar
hall, six staff quarters, four big parking lots, and a well-stocked and
efficiently-managed library with spacious reading rooms for boys, girls and staff.
